The University of Michigan conducted an unusual study in order to check how romantic movies wrongly promote the \u2018love conquers all\u2019 myth.<\/p>\n
The researchers, in front with Julia R. Lippmann, included in the study a group of women who were asked to watch three romantic comedies (like “There\u2019s Something About Mary”) and another group of women who were asked to watch three thrillers (like “Sleeping With the Enemy”). It is about the study <\/a>called “I Did It Because I Never Stopped Loving You”.<\/p>\n After the views, the researchers found out through the applied questionnaires that women who watched romantic comedies<\/strong> \u2013 where the aggressiveness of men is oftenly shown in a positive light because they simply do not accept to take “no” for an answer – were more likely to relate to the aggressive male behavior as to a normal one.<\/strong><\/p>\n Romantic movies, as Lippman says, cause women to agree “false or exaggerated beliefs regarding harassment, thus minimising its seriousness, which means that someone who strongly endorses the persistent conqueror myth tends to take harassment less seriously”.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
